"Trials are proofs of God's care." It is with deepest humility and gratitude that I quote this statement made by Mrs. Eddy on page 66 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I can only look back at an unhappy illness and the experiences contributing to it with compassion and love, for it was this very circumstance which Love made "an angel entertained unawares" (ibid., p. 574).

Troubles in the home, followed by separation from a loved one and the resuming of my work as a dancer, preceded my introduction to Christian Science; as did a very painful abdominal condition of a year's standing, which made it very difficult for me to walk erectly, and which three physicians diagnosed as incurable unless I submitted to an operation.

We were traveling across the continent on tour when the above-mentioned condition became so aggravated as to force me to a hospital, and I was on the verge of an operation. But at this point one of the members of the company asked me if I should like to be healed without surgery or medicine, and explained that she knew a man "who performed miracles through prayer." This was something new to me, and naturally I was most interested. A few days later I met this man, who was a Christian Science practitioner. He gave me one treatment, which healed me. I walked out of his office more erect than I had been for months, the pain slowly receded, and in a few days completely disappeared, never to come back.
