Obedience and Meekness

In commenting on a letter from a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, Mrs. Eddy said (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 209): "God will abundantly bless this willing and obedient church with the rich reward of those that seek and serve Him. No greater hope have we than in right thinking and right acting, and faith in the blessing of fidelity, courage, patience, and grace."

It is both instructive and inspiring to note what our Leader here indicates of the divine blessing on willingness and obedience. Obedience is the test of our meekness. To obtain the blessings of God it is essential to be meek. It is essential to listen not to the thunderings and earthquakes of mortal mind, not to the whirlwind suggestions of human opinion as to our needs, nor yet to the consuming fires of human will, but to the "still small voice," and to obey the perfect will of God.

"Desire," our Leader says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 1), "is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." Surely we have all proved this true many times.
