Christian Science has been my stay and comforter for...
Christian Science has been my stay and comforter for many years. I wish to express my gratitude, and I pray that others seeking surcease from sorrow and difficulties will be encouraged to press on toward the high goal.
At a time of great sorrow a friend presented me with Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I read this book with great interest, but did not think of it in a religious light, but rather as a science. Then, some months later, the specialist whom I consulted regarding my physical condition pronounced the sentence that I had not more than one year to live. This verdict of death presented more than a self-concern, as I had two small children who would be left alone in the world. I left the physician's office in grave thought. As I walked along the street, trying to think of a way out of this problem, like "a still small voice" came to remembrance the little book I had recently read. But try as I would, I could not recall the title of the book. I endeavored to recall something I had read in this book, for it treated of health. And all I could recall was that the book spoke of one Principle and also stated that God is Love. All day and into the night I walked, thinking of these two statements. I must have gained a closeness to omnipotence, for in the morning when I awoke I was entirely free, and the healing has been permanent. Strange to say, I did not take up the study of Christian Science at that time.
Many years later I was led to inquire earnestly into Science, when seeming dishonesty was robbing a loved one of all peace and happiness. Again Christian Science gave me the desired peace, and the erring one was restored to his rightful place in society.
