With gratitude to God, I shall tell of my first healing through the truth taught in Christian Science.

I began the study of Science and Health in conjunction with the Bible in the summer of 1930. For five years prior to that I was subject every winter to attacks of bronchitis, despite the fact that I always wore a chest protector. These attacks would last from five to twelve days and at times were so severe that I had to be taken to the hospital on account of high temperature.

After studying the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly all summer and reading the many wonderful testimonies in the Sentinel, I had so much faith and confidence in Christian Science that I was sure that since it could do so much good for others it could do the same for me. As winter approached I did not wear the chest protector. One cold morning when I was on my way to work, and was approximately five hundred yards from the mine where I was employed, my bronchial tubes closed, making it difficult for me to breathe. Of course, I denied the false claim immediately, and began to apply the grain of truth that I had learned, with the good result that by the time I reached the mine I was breathing normally and all the dreaded symptoms had vanished. That evening when I was at home reading a Sentinel the same condition again made its appearance. As no one else at home was interested in Science, I did not mention the condition, but went to my room and applied the truth as I had in the morning. This time it took about one hour before I gained the victory, but I am happy to say I have been free from that ailment ever since.
