Forthcoming "History of the Bible" Series

The Christian Science Monitor announces a series of fifty-four articles on the history of the Bible. They will appear daily in this paper from September 30 to December 2, 1935. It is anticipated that this outstanding series will be of value to the Bible student whose reading is sometimes of a fragmentary nature or is only built around some special subject for study.

These articles, written by Albert F. Gilmore, a Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society, will help to give the reader an outline of the Bible in its continuity and unity. All doctrinal discussions are avoided, and the conclusions offered will be those which appear to be most authoritative and representative of the well-considered opinion of noted scholars. Biblical stories are to be summarized and condensed in such a way as to give a comprehensive picture of Bible history from Genesis to Revelation. The background of the Old and New Testaments will be described, showing what circumstances brought out a given message. Vivid biographical sketches of the main characters will be included. The writings of the Gospels, the letters of Paul and the apostles will be discussed; and the struggles and dangers which accompanied the translation, printing, and circulation of the Bible will be thoroughly discussed. Recent discoveries of archaeologists which verify and confirm Bible history will be set forth.

A special rate of $1.00 for the fifty-four issues of the Monitor in which the articles will appear during a period of two months has been made by the Publishing Society. Advertisements are appearing regularly in the Monitor advertising this series, and a convenient way of ordering is by clipping the coupon and mailing it to the Publishing House with check or money order.
