The Nursing Homes Registration Act of 1929, passed...
Star
The Nursing Homes Registration Act of 1929, passed by the British Parliament, states that all nursing homes must be under the supervision of a qualified medical practitioner responsible to the Ministry of Health. However, a clause of this Act exempts Christian Science nursing homes from medical supervision on the condition that they be called Christian Science Houses, and that these houses comply with the requirements of a committee appointed by The Christian Science Board of Directors. The Ministry of Health gives exemption on the advice of this committee.
The majority of Christian Scientists have become interested in this religion after being treated by physicians or surgeons. They have forsaken material methods of healing because they are convinced that Christian Science Mind-healing is a better way. It is also an interesting fact that many reputable physicians have discarded their medical practice for that of Christian Science.
As the child who is learning arithmetic might make mistakes, and does not at once demonstrate all the rules during his period of learning, so the Christian Scientist does not profess to be fully demonstrating as yet the absolute perfection of God's kingdom as revealed by Christian Science. Of one thing, however, he is certain, and that is that the Principle of Christian Science is unerring and absolute. He knows that Christianity as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus is as practical and demonstrable today in the healing of discordant conditions as it was when Christ Jesus trod this globe; and while he is aware of the wonderful healing and regenerating work that has already been accomplished by the practice of Christian Science, he is aware that he has but touched the fringe of the Christly garment of divine healing. He prays for a closer approximation of the healing of sin and disease as taught by Jesus.
