Christian Science found me in the darkest hour of...
Christian Science found me in the darkest hour of physical, moral, and mental disorders. A Christian Science Sentinel was given to me in which an article impressed me so much that after reading it I bought the textbook. I read and reread it. Progress was made, though slowly. I received many wonderful healings.
Mental surgery was demonstrated on more than one occasion. Once I fell from a ladder to a cement floor, head downward, and lay there helpless. Declaring the truths I had learned, I reached my room with the aid of near-by friends. This was in the morning at eleven o'clock. The pain was intense, the left arm immovable. At four o'clock I called a practitioner, forty miles away, and an hour later I returned to my work. Next day, to comply with state laws, I had to go to some doctors for examination and treatments. The X-ray showed the left shoulder broken in three places and a very bad dislocation, but that the bones had set rightly, and nothing more was necessary. The arm was kept in a sling for a period which was much shorter than that stated by the doctors to be necessary.
On another occasion, while I was traveling, a foreign particle blew into my left eye. My own work did not help, and on the advice of a friend I went to a druggist, who on previous occasions had removed such substances quite skillfully. After examining my eye, he refused to do anything, as he said that the foreign matter had gone too far up and he could not take the risk of removing it. He told me to go to a doctor. At this I went to the telephone booth and called up a practitioner. At the end of a few minutes' conversation with him, I walked out of the booth, free and seeing. My friend asked me if he should take me to a doctor. I said, "I am healed." He could not understand how anyone could be healed by means of a short talk over the telephone. Both these cases proved to me beyond doubt that space is no obstacle in Mind-healing. I have been healed of the desire for intoxicating liquors, and subsequently my home relations have become harmonious.
