Measuring Ourselves

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 1): "Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind. Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."

The above statement helped one student as she prayerfully worked to realize what it meant to be a teacher in a Christian Science Sunday School and examined her thought to see if she was measuring up to what was expected of her. She saw that as we trust God with our desires we shall be led to express "in words and in deeds" all that is necessary to make our teaching clear.

She remembered how the children of her Sunday school class loved to have the lesson brought our through questions and answers, so she decided to ask herself some questions. The first one to present itself was, Do I appreciate what it means to be a regular teacher in the Christian Science Sunday School? At once gratitude rose in thought for the many times error had been silenced and she had been able to take her place in class, when during the hour for teaching some especially joyous incident had taken place; and how glad she had been that she had not listened to the error which would have detained her!
