Will you kindly grant me space to reply to the letter of your correspondent "Rationalist" in a recent issue regarding the report of a lecture on Christian Science.
To form a correct estimate of any subject, the only rational way is to study the authorized textbook on that particular subject before accepting any criticism thereof. In this case the only textbook on Christian Science is "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which can be borrowed from most public libraries and from Christian Science Reading Rooms throughout New Zealand and other parts of the world.
Your correspondent is mistaken if he thinks that the Christian Science church organization is carried on for private profit. Its whole aim and object is to give and not to get, to give unstintingly to tempest-tossed humanity that knowledge of the saving truth which was taught and practiced by Christ Jesus and is available for the solving of every problem today. Because of this ceaseless giving on the part of the Christian Science organization, the gratitude of countless thousands of those healed and regenerated flows back to it, as evidenced by the new Publishing House just completed. When it was announced that new and larger premises had become a necessity in order to meet humanity's need, the money, expressing gratitude, flowed in from all parts of the world.
