I am very grateful to have learned through Christian Science...
I am very grateful to have learned through Christian Science that God is Principle and Life. As a child there seemed to me to be no rule in connection with life. When I pondered the "whys and wherefores" it was all a great nightmare; God and punishment seemed almost synonymous, and I was full of fear and misgiving about the unseen. At a stage in my life when I went from allopathy to homeopathy, I was convinced that there must be some other way to health, happiness, and peace—some defined path. I knew that prayer, as I had used it, seemed of little use, and all I asked now was to know the truth, the truth that would set me free. There came a time, as I went about my household duties, when the words "Christian Science" kept coming to me. So persistent were they in my thought that one night I wrote a letter asking what Christian Science was, and posted it to the nearest city. Although without proper postal address the letter went to the right place, and I got in touch with Scientists, who introduced me to the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the literature. I loved the Sentinel and read Science and Health persistently, if without much understanding, until the testing time came.
The youngest member of the family had been in bed for a week with bowel trouble and seemed very weak, but one visit to the practitioner gave me such a revelation of Truth that I came home to find the little one entirely normal. I knew then that Christian Science was demonstrable, that it healed, and that I had found the truth. It was also proof to relatives at home who knew the circumstances. This was over three years ago, and since then I have studied faithfully, and have had glorious glimpses of the truth that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation" (Science and Health, p. 468). These glimpses have resulted in physical healings for myself and the children, and have been brought about sometimes with the help of a practitioner, sometimes by the spiritual message in a Bible text or a passage from our textbook. Each demonstration has helped me to become acquainted with God, to know Him as Father-Mother, Love, and this to me is most wondrous assurance of all good.
I am grateful for every activity in connection with Christian Science, for the Scientists who helped me in the beginning, for the practitioners who are examples of what Science teaches, and for the faithful witness, Mrs. Eddy, who discovered it. I am glad to be a member of The Mother Church and of a Christian Science Society, and I desire that my light may shine to the glory of our Father.
