Are We Erroneously Striving for a Perfect Counterfeit?

If a person were to find himself the possessor of a counterfeit dollar, would he endeavor to improve it and make it into a genuine one in order to use it? Not unless he were acting dishonestly or ignorantly.

Would we were as wise in refusing to accept as real the counterfeit man, the material personality! How often human thinking struggles with the false concept of man, not realizing that this so-called man can never be anything but a counterfeit of the real!

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our inspired Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has written (p. 409), "The real man is spiritual and immortal, but the mortal and imperfect so-called 'children of men' are counterfeits from the beginning, to be laid aside for the pure reality." "To be laid aside"!
