A Prayer for Our Sons and Daughters

Oh, that our sons may be as stalwart as trees
Planted beside the river's verdant brim;
As trees whose boughs shall never lose their leaves,
Whose roots reach deep into the living stream.
Oh, may our sons, erect and strong, each hour
As ever-beauteous trees reflect Thy power.

Oh, may our daughters be as cornerstones
Precious and radiant with reflected light,
Ashine with Love's transcendent tender rays,
Serenely sure with Truth's unchanging might.
Oh, may our daughters fair and steadfast be,
Reflecting Spirit's pure tranquillity.

O Father-Mother, may these children be
Free from illusive dreams of human will,
From idols many: in sweet honesty
May their clear lives express Thy life, until
Constant as fairest stars, undimmed they shine,
The sons and daughters they of Love divine.
