Signs of the Times

[Dr. A. H. Wurtele, as quoted in the Times, Los Angeles, California]

More prayer and less thought of money and military ambitions will solve the world's problems. Prayer is common to all religions, even the most primitive. ... Prayer arouses in our hearts and souls a sense of reliance upon the power and love of a heavenly Father in which all men share, and so develops a sense of brotherhood that can help to break down personal and national animosities and can lead to a better understanding toward our fellow men. ... It brings comfort and assurance to broken hearts and helps to give new strength to the discouraged and oppressed, bringing that quiet confidence of which Mrs. Browning speaks when she writes:

I smiled to think God's greatness flowed around our incompleteness, Round our restlessness His rest.
