Presence and Power
Presence is usually thought of as something material which occupies space, but God's presence is manifested as true consciousness, as man, His image. Christian Scientists become increasingly aware of the presence of God through the truth of being of which they become conscious. The presence of God, then, is not something from which we ourselves are separate, and with which we are to become at one later or elsewhere. Actually the true presence, or true consciousness, is everywhere. There is naught else.
Then has health to be fetched from afar? Has abundance ceased? Is innocence lost? Is happiness extinct? Has strength vanished? No, for God could not be present and His manifestation absent. Invariably, irresistibly, health, innocence, happiness, abundance, strength, are present to be discerned and enjoyed now. Then, "let us come before his presence with thanksgiving," giving thanks that we consciously know and love God, good, for this knowledge and love is the reality of our being, now and forever.
There is no absence of true consciousness, else God, good, would be absent. The time-worn illusory notion that the tokens of God's presence have been displaced by their opposites, and that man has ceased to be man is all that has to be blotted out in order to bring out a healing. Health, then, in reality has not to be restored, but recognized as spiritual, manifested everywhere in the now of eternal being.
