Listening

I heard a voice behind me say,
Seek Truth, and find the perfect way;
But I was filled with doubt and fear,
And knew not that my God was near.

Through weary years I struggled on.
When hope of worldly help was gone,
In deep despair I made my choice,
And listened then for Truth's clear voice:

Lo, I am with thee, fear thou not,
For happiness shall be thy lot.
Be not cast down; come unto me—
Peace filled my heart, and I was free.
