Extracts from an Address given by Mrs. Winifred M. Hartley, Committee on Publication for Staffordshire, England, to group of Toc H, in Bilston, Staffordshire, on—February 23, 1934

Mrs. Eddy has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 113), "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love;" and from first to last, Christian Science turns mortals from a finite, material sense of God, to the beautiful, comforting realization that the great First Cause is Love, taking for authority the Scriptural declaration that God is Love.

Over nineteen years ago, I first went to a Christian Science service to please a friend, intending never to go again; but two years later my little son was dangerously ill, and after the doctors had failed to help him, I sought the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, and he started to recover from that very hour. Christian Science teaches one power, and that God, or good.

When men begin to comprehend the beneficent nature of God, and perceive the endless control of good, they will cease to attribute to God all the disease and disaster that is in the world today. We suffer, not from a merciless God handing out endless suffering, war, and death, but from sheer lack of understanding the source of being and blessedness, and the nature of God, infinite Love.
