I first became interested in Christian Science fifteen...
I first became interested in Christian Science fifteen years ago at the time of a healing of our youngest child, then a baby girl, who seemed to be wasting away because of inability to retain her food. Many and various kinds of infants' foods had been tried, all unsuccessfully. The family physician had said that the only hope for correction would be a surgical operation of serious nature. At this point we turned to Christian Science, and through absent treatment by a practitioner our baby was completely healed. Since this time Christian Science has been our only physician. Among the ailments overcome have been whooping cough, measles, infection, and an abscess of a serious nature in the palm of a hand.
One experience in Christian Science for which I have been ever grateful was the healing of grief at the passing on of a near relative. At this time, through prayer for light and guidance, I was led to read in Science and Health (pp. 426:5 to 430:11), and as I read, my thought was uplifted, and a clear realization of the true nature of man, made in God's image and likeness, came into my consciousness. I was enabled to see beyond the mist of material living and perceive that the real man, spiritual, perfect, does not experience death, but lives, always has lived, and will continue always to live. With me there was no sense of separation or grief, but a quiet rejoicing for this reality—proof of the Word as found in St. John, "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, ... even the Spirit of truth."
In Christian Science I have found much help in overcoming, to a large extent, undesirable traits of character. I feel this testimony would be incomplete without reference to the periodicals issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society and also a word of gratitude for the Christian Science Hymnal. I know there is still much to do to realize man's unity with his Maker, but in the words of a hymn, "My heart is singing: I have found the way."
