From an early age I had been employed as a law stenographer, in which capacity my duties were heavy and the hours long, and I was burdened as well with a sense of responsibility for members of my family and myself. About eight years ago I was suddenly stricken with a collapse of the muscles of the neck, and was forced to give up my work. I endeavored to find relief from this condition through many of the material means known to men, until all my savings were exhausted.

At this stage I decided to try Christian Science, as I had heard that its followers claim to heal as Jesus healed. At this time I was in a very helpless and hopeless condition. The muscles of the neck were rigid, the right side of the neck was pressed to the shoulder, and I was in constant pain and great discomfort, as well as in a highly nervous condition. The practitioner to whom I appealed for help gave me this blessed assurance: "As surely as a piece of ice will melt when you put it in the sun, will this condition melt before the power of God's love." He then referred me to the following statement from "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 185): "Self-renunciation of all that constitutes a so-called material man, and the acknowledgment and achievement of his spiritual identity as the child of God, is Science that opens the very flood-gates of heaven; whence good flows into every avenue of being, cleansing mortals of all uncleanness, destroying all suffering, and demonstrating the true image and likeness." He then explained to me how to make this practical. I reviewed his explanation several times a day, letting the truth into my thought, studied our Lesson-Sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly, and also Mrs. Eddy's writings and the periodicals, and endeavored to apply in my daily life what I knew of this truth.

I have been completely healed. The structure of the neck has been renewed, the depleted nervous condition in my shoulders and arms is corrected, and my general physical condition is greatly improved. I have also been healed of severe headaches, which I had had since an early age, and of other physical ailments, as well as of many false traits of character.
