In the issue of February 10 of your good daily, under the heading "That Body of Yours," the contributor gives credit to mind as an aid to bodily healing, but further adds "that the body itself influences the mind for good mental health or bad mental health." This article evidences a lack of knowledge of the fundamental facts of Christian Science Mind-healing; therefore a brief correction may be helpful to your readers.
Christian Science advocates but one method in the healing of the sick, namely, the prayer that understands, acknowledges, and applies the power of God, divine Mind; and this method, it is needless to say, is not will-power, but Christianly scientific thinking.
Mary Baker Eddy has done a great service to mankind by showing us how we may learn to govern the body, not through material means, or human will, but through the understanding of God and man's relationship to Him. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy states (p. 427): "God, Life, Truth, and Love make man undying. Immortal Mind, governing all, must be acknowledged as supreme in the physical realm, so-called, as well as in the spiritual."This is the great fact of being, and man can experience dominion in daily life through an understanding of immortal Mind as taught in Christian Science. Thus we find that man never has been, and never can be mortal; that he is always the image and likeness of God, as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis. God, infinite Life, is the true source of our health and can keep us happy and well, whereas mortal, material sense cannot. Paul's willingness, therefore, "to be absent from the body" and "present with the Lord," indicates the soundest of health laws.
