"Comfort ye"
Human experience shows us that human comfort is necessarily limited and of short duration, being subject to the changing conditions of a mortal sense of existence. Christian Science brings the assurance of the Christ, and shows us how to exchange the heavy burdens of the mortal for the spiritual liberty of the sons of God. No personal intervention is needed, for it is on the acknowledgment and demonstration of the oneness of God as All-in-all that the teachings of Christian Science are based and its comfort expressed.
Christian Science affirms God to be divine Principle, and this means liberation from the false theology which binds mankind to worship God according to human misconceptions, supposing Him to be the creator of a mortal, fleshly creation and of human changeableness. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 502), "The creative Principle—Life, Truth, and Love—is God;" and she adds further, "There is but one creator and one creation." The I AM THAT I AM who led the children of Israel out of Egypt to the promised land was the same Holy One of Israel of whom Jesus spoke when he said, "There is none good but one, that is, God."
Jesus lived in accord with God, good, and his mighty works and words, which are for all time, were the result of his recognition of God as over all, and All. He was able to comfort and bless as no other had done, for whatever seemed to give power to evil or presented itself as fleshly ill, Jesus met in the same way that he met the temptation in the wilderness when he affirmed, "It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."
