I desire to express gratitude for the wonderful blessings...

I desire to express gratitude for the wonderful blessings that have come to me through the study of Christian Science. This great truth came to me many years ago, at a time when I was very sick and weary. I grasped at it as a drowning man would grasp a rope. After reading the textbook for a month or two I found that I was healed of deafness of long standing, which an ear specialist had told me was incurable, as it was caused by perforation of the ear drum. The spiritual uplifting, too, which came with the reading, was wonderful. I persisted with my study, and many are the blessings which have since come to me.

I would specially mention a healing from scalding which I had over three years ago. One evening while I was preparing dinner, I lifted a large stewpan containing boiling vegetables from the stove to carry it to the sink. As I turned, I slipped and fell forward. Falling with the pan, I met the full measure of the boiling contents, and my head, face, and neck—even my eyes and inside my mouth—were badly scalded. I immediately declared "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468). I then called to a friend for help, and together we read passages from the textbook, after which I resumed preparations for dinner and served it. A practitioner was called, and gave me loving help. All pain left me and I retired and slept peacefully all night. I was unable to see what I looked like in the mirror, for the water had burned my eyes. I was not for one moment prevented from doing my duties, and in ten days' time all evidence of the scalding had disappeared, leaving no scar, although every bit of the scalded skin came off. During the time that the evidence was disappearing, the text from Job, "For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot," was continually with me. The belief of shock and its results, which usually attend such experiences of scalding, were entirely absent.

I can never adequately express my gratitude for all that Christian Science means to me—for all the peace and joy this study brings. The Bible indeed becomes "the chart of life" (Science and Health, p. 24), when we read it in the light which Christian Science throws upon it. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; for the blessing of class instruction, for our literature, and for all the loyal workers in this great Cause.—(Mrs.) Mary E. Cook, Randwick, New South Wales, Australia.
