From childhood it had always been my great desire to know the meaning of life, and after searching through various denominations I was led into Christian Science. Paul said, "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." Thus it was that I learned, through the study and persistent application of the teachings of Christian Science, that life is God, good, and that strength, courage, and health are spiritual qualities, to be found in divine Mind, not in matter. With this wonderful revelation, physical healings followed as a natural result.
One of the first demonstrations of the efficacy of this healing truth occurred shortly after I took up its study. Our pet dog appeared very ill. A veterinary surgeon was called and diagnosed the disease as incurable, at the same time saying he thought it would be kindness on our part to have the dog put away. Here was an opportunity, I thought, to prove Christian Science. Therefore I mentally reversed the error, realizing that God is the only cause and creator and that every idea He creates is harmonious, reflecting perfect activity. In a very short time the dog was restored to health. On page 550 of the textbook our Leader says, "God is the Life, or intelligence, which forms and preserves the individuality and identity of animals as well as of men."
Since then many healings have taken place. While visiting us a niece became ill with mumps. Through my reading Science and Health to her at her request, she was healed in three days, and through realization of the truth the child's front tooth, which was growing crooked, became straight. I should like to express my gratitude for my mother's healings. One was of heart trouble after the doctor in attendance said he could do no more for her; also influenza, high blood pressure, and rheumatism yielded very quickly with the help of a practitioner. I myself have been healed of severe headaches, colds, influenza, and the desire for medicine, which over ten years ago was considered a weekly necessity.
