Spiritual Sense

That is not sight which looks on man as mortal,
But rather blindness, with all error rife;
Discernment, God-bestowed, is wise and tender,
And so it demonstrates eternal Life.

That is not hearing which, assenting, listens
To error's lie about the things God made;
Only the thought attuned to Spirit's message
Can know and live the truth, all unafraid.

That is not feeling which admits as real
The pains and pleasures of material sense;
From cruel fetters forged by false sensation
The laws of Soul provide a sure defense.

Man sees, reflecting God's unerring vision;
Man hears above the storm the words, Be still!
Man feels the calm of His eternal presence,
And so abideth in Love's holy hill.
