I shall always be grateful to God for His divine guidance...

I shall always be grateful to God for His divine guidance which led me to Christian Science. Although I have been in Christian Science but a short time, I have already experienced innumerable demonstrations of the truth, both physical and mental.

On January 22, 1933, I traveled to another city to play an exhibition soccer game. During the game I received a concave fracture of the skull. In an unconscious condition I was taken to a near-by hospital; the authorities notified my mother, who in turn called a Christian Science practitioner for help. Later, according to the X-ray pictures which were taken, an operation was found to be imperative. The hospital wired to my mother for consent to operate. Before replying, however, she once again called the practitioner and explained everything. The practitioner quietly stated, "There will be no operation; wire your consent and hold no fear." Soon after, much to the astonishment of the hospital authorities, my condition showed such a marked improvement that an operation was deemed unnecessary. Midway through the second week a second set of X-ray plates were made. Again the specialist thought an operation would be needed. After giving me a very thorough mental and physical test, however, he found my reactions to be entirely normal, and so there was no operation performed. As I was leaving the hospital the specialist said, "I cannot understand your truly remarkable recovery." I was in the hospital only two weeks and three days. To me this is certainly a glorious manifestation of the truth.

Words are inadequate to express my deep feeling of gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, Way-shower, to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to our faithful practitioners, who are ever ready to lend us a helping hand when we falter and are in need of help.—Ernest Edward Claridge, Bellaire, Long Island, New York.
