Christian Science is based squarely upon the Bible
Christian Science is based squarely upon the Bible. It is the Science of Christianity understood and demonstrated by Jesus centuries ago, and made practical to us today by Mary Baker Eddy, an American woman, who discovered its Principle to be God operating through the law of love. In order that we may be assured that Christian Science is based upon the Scriptures, it may be well to tell how Mrs. Eddy discovered the Science underlying the teachings of the Bible. She had sustained injuries from a fall which her physician feared would prove fatal. She turned to her Bible for comfort and was impressed with Jesus' words to the man whom he healed of palsy. Her thought was illumined, and she was instantaneously healed, to the astonishment of those in the house. Now Mrs. Eddy might have been satisfied with her restoration to health, even as many another who has glimpsed a spiritual fact and found instant relief has been satisfied, but her great love for God and for her fellow men urged her to discover the rule underlying spiritual healing in order that she might share it with all mankind. She withdrew from society and searched the Scriptures, making copious notes upon the revelations which came to her. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" is the result of this communion with God, and every metaphysical deduction in it is based upon some Biblical truth spiritually understood.
Christian Scientists love Mrs. Eddy and are grateful to her for this unselfish work whereby they have benefited, but they certainly do not worship her. She continually turned thought away from her personality to the contemplation of spiritual truths.
Many who do not understand the law underlying spiritual healing deprecate it, but those who are interested in solving their problems upon a Christianly scientific basis may prove for themselves what Christian Science will do for them. Investigation is free to all: Christian Science lectures are always free; anyone may use the Christian Science Reading Rooms; the Christian Science textbook may be borrowed at public libraries and at Christian Science Reading Rooms, and all are welcome to attend Christian Science church services.
