From Letters, Substantially as Published

In these strange, difficult days of the world's unrest, is it...

In these strange, difficult days of the world's unrest, is it not entirely worth while to learn of a system of thinking which is not only a religion, but an exact Science, capable of demonstration? There is a way out of every human difficulty, no matter how complicated or how hopeless it may seem to be—a right way, a quiet way, a way which will bless all concerned, the sort of which the prophet spoke when he wrote, "For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace."

In quoting from Isaiah, I am reminded to say, what doubtless many of you already know, that Christian Science is sanctioned by the Bible. Our textbook is called "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and it was written by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. We love Mrs. Eddy, but we do not worship her, as some believe. And why should we not love her? Today there is in Boston a Christian Science church, called The Mother Church, and there are also branches of this church, not only in this country, but all over the world. When a Cause has grown like this for nearly seventy years, and is continuing to grow, this fact cannot be ignored. It is time for every intelligent person to ask himself, Why? There must be a reason.

This book which I hold in my hand is the reason. Science and Health is available to all, for in Reading Rooms, established by the Christian Science churches throughout the world, it may be read, or purchased, or, in many cases, borrowed if desired. Within a few minutes' walk of this room you may find it in a building called The Christian Science Monitor Pavilion, so named from our daily newspaper.
