Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

The work of the Committee the past year has been marked by increased newspaper publicity. Only a few years ago, the press seldom if ever published accounts of our Sunday services. Today, reports of our weekly Lesson-Sermons are appearing in fifty-five Oregon newspapers; fourteen hundred and seventy-eight such reports were published last year in this one state alone.

Many of the country newspapers in the state of Oregon are receiving The Christian Science Monitor through your Committee on Publication, in exchange for advertising, and these papers frequently quote and comment upon items that appear in the Monitor, but seldom is this done other than with approbation, either expressed or implied. Rarely also is the Monitor quoted without due credit being given; and of the hundreds of quotations from the Monitor mentioned the past year, sixty-five were the subject of editorial comment.

Only a few letters of correction were required during the year, items which need correcting now seldom appearing in print. However, antagonism to our Leader and her discovery is still voiced occasionally from platform and pulpit, but the press usually avoids quoting such speakers.
