For the great blessing which through Christian Science...

For the great blessing which through Christian Science has come into my life, I wish to extend my most sincere gratitude.

More than ten years ago my health and working capacity began to fail, and in spite of the conscientious help of eminent physicians and nerve specialists, who did all they could for me, I was getting worse. For years, off and on, I used opiates, and I was always taking some sedative. A weak heart hindered my walking up even the slightest grade, an ever increasing feeling of fear made the days dark, and the nights were hours of fearful suffering. An extreme fear of losing my mind at last took hold of me. In my despair I sought help in the Bible, finding that only the Word of God could still my fear and suffering; but in spite of my struggle and my prayers I was again and again falling down into the valley of the shadow.

On one of these darkest days I met a stranger, a lady who I instinctively understood possessed a remedy for all sufferings. Divine Love spoke so clearly to my despairing thought through her that with earnestness I grasped all that she explained to me. She was a Christian Scientist; and through her untiring and unselfish aid I gradually came into the light—to the realization of the wonderful statement of the truth, which Mrs. Eddy has made so clear to us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 475-477), where is found the answer to the question: "What is man?" After reading sundry Christian Science literature for a year, I bought the textbook and began to read the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly; and as often as I had an opportunity I went to the church services, with the result that today I am more harmonious and happy than ever I dreamed of being.
