In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 259) our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has written, "Whatever appears to be law, but partakes not of the nature of God, is not law, but is what Jesus declared it, 'a liar, and the father of it.'" I was not aware of this fact before becoming interested in Christian Science because I firmly believed in the man-made law that declares tonsillitis and quinsy are chronic diseases. For six years I suffered intensely each winter, and each year the doctor advised my parents to have my tonsils removed as soon as I was able to stand the operation. This, however, was never done. When the last attack occurred, some twelve years ago, I was led to ask for help from a Christian Science practitioner. In two treatments I was completely free and have never had a return of this disease.

Five years ago I was healed of a very severe cold in one treatment. For two weeks I had been awakened in the middle of the night with a coughing spell. Finally realizing how wrong it was for me not to ask for help from a practitioner, since it was apparent I was not meeting the difficulty, I asked for help, and a Christian Science treatment was given. That night I was awakened, but instead of the usual struggle, I experienced an indescribable peace, and then I realized that I was healed. Erroneous thoughts of self-pity, resentment, and criticism were uncovered and forever destroyed with this experience.

Each year I am better able to appreciate the value of Christian Science in bringing up our two children. They are keenly aware of the fact that God's law is the only law there is and it protects and sustains them. They have experienced many healings and proofs of God's care. Our little girl, when six years of age, was healed of a most severe earache in twenty minutes. At the age of five years our little boy awoke one Sunday morning unable to walk. He was carried to and from his class at Sunday school. The truth was applied to the case, and in less than three hours the boy was entirely free and was outdoors playing in the snow and running up and down the steps.
