Christian Science was first brought to my attention in...

Christian Science was first brought to my attention in 1922 by a brother. I began to attend the Sunday and Wednesday services. At that time I was one of those who had become tired of attending church and of listening to sermons which I did not understand. I comforted myself with the thought that I knew the difference between right and wrong and could be just as good out of church as in it, and with much less inconvenience. The first Christian Science service that I attended changed all that reasoning and I knew that I had been on the wrong track, so I began to read the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

During the next three years I made very little progress, as I had not settled down earnestly to study. In 1925 I was in great distress from a nervous condition which filled me with fear and anxiety. Treatments by an osteopathic doctor seemed to have no effect. After several of these treatments, I was urged to try Christian Science, which I did. I had not been to business for three or four days, and did not know when I should return. I made an appointment with a practitioner for eight o'clock one morning and went to his office with the thought of returning home after seeing him. I was suffering from indigestion when I entered his office, but after a few minutes' treatment I was instantly healed and went from there to my business instead of returning home. Fear seized me in the thought that the healing would not last, but this was quickly overcome, and in one week I was entirely free from the nervous trouble.

Another healing which stands out during the past eight years is that of grippe. I was stricken with severe symptoms at the dinner table one Sunday and had to forgo all thoughts of food and go to bed. A practitioner was called, and in a few minutes I was asleep. I awoke one hour later, got up and dressed, feeling entirely well.
