Beginning early in October, 1932, the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy participated in a plan for placing a six-inch advertisement of Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in issues of newspapers published in the United States which carried reports of Christian Science lectures. These advertisements contained a price list and the address of the local Reading Room, with the hours when open, thus informing interested readers of the lecture reports where, in their communities, the textbook of Christian Science could be obtained.

Following the appearance of these advertisements a number of the local Christian Science Reading Rooms indicated that additional sales of Science and Health were traceable to these advertisements in newspapers; and Librarians reported a gratifying increase in attendance at Reading Rooms and in the number of inquiries about Christian Science.

While the Trustees under the Will had authorized the insertion of these advertisements, and were to pay for them, in some cases churches and societies generously assumed the cost of the advertisements. Participation by the Trustees in the plan ended on April 1, 1933; since then a number of churches and societies have elected to continue to insert, at their own expense, these advertisements of the textbook and of the local Reading Room in their respective local newspapers which contain reports of Christian Science lectures. In some of the larger cities the churches are coöperating in continuing this plan instituted by the Trustees, and thus are including in the advertisements lists of the local Reading Rooms, although in cities having an unusually large number of Reading Rooms it is generally deemed advisable to list only the address of the jointly maintained Reading Rooms.
