In the year 1913, when everything seemed dark, Christian Science...
In the year 1913, when everything seemed dark, Christian Science was introduced to me. For over thirteen years my husband had suffered from depression. The physicians at last gave up the case as hopeless; and when I inquired about my husband I was informed that he would never be fit for another day's business, and would have to go to what was termed a home for incurables. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." A neighbor recommended Christian Science, so I went with him to a practitioner, who so lovingly and patiently explained the teachings of Christian Science to me that I immediately realized that it was the truth. Treatment was asked for and lovingly given; and my husband was quickly healed.
Over four years ago our son was suddenly taken very ill. A doctor diagnosed the symptoms as a stone in the bladder or kidney. Immediately I mentally denied this verdict, and held on to the truth. At the doctor's request our son was removed to a hospital where two minor operations were performed, and a third was to take place. I visited him and saw that he appeared to be sinking fast, so asked him to rely entirely upon God. He said he would, and asked to be removed from the hospital. I saw the doctor and told him that I was taking our son home, but was informed that he might die on the journey. I must acknowledge that I was horrified with fear at what was told me; but I stood my ground and trusted in my Father-Mother God for the healing. I took our son home; help was lovingly given by a practitioner, and I am grateful to say that our son is now enjoying better health than ever before. When I turned to Science to help my husband I thought that I did not need it for myself; but after a short while I found that I had been healed of sick headaches and chronic indigestion, from which I had suffered since childhood. These healings took place without any conscious effort on my part.
I am indeed deeply grateful for all the joy and happiness that Christian Science has brought into my life. I am also very grateful for membership in The Mother Church, and in a branch church; for class instruction; grateful to God and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
