It has been my privilege to enjoy and prove the healing...
It has been my privilege to enjoy and prove the healing efficacy of Christian Science, and I deem it my duty to add my testimony to the many already given, which I have enjoyed reading.
For a period of twenty years I had suffered from an internal trouble, and the services of fourteen doctors, the ordeal of an operation, and many patent medicines, had failed to effect a cure. I was about to undergo the second operation when I pictured myself returning from the hospital a lingering invalid. This I dreaded very much. The surgeon assured me that if I refused to submit to the operation I would be in my grave within three months. This information failed to worry me, because I thought that death would be welcome. I still went on suffering, and the agony became unbearable; morphine was resorted to, to quiet the pain, until I felt it was causing me to become very ill-natured. I left my home and lived in another city for several years, still suffering. Then a neighbor who had become interested in Christian Science told me of its healing power. She also invited me to attend a lecture which was to be given in a few weeks. I accepted the invitation, and was healed of that dreadful condition at the lecture. It was the first lecture on Christian Science that I had ever heard, and prior to it I knew nothing about this Science. That was about eighteen years ago, and I have had no return of this condition.
I have a sense of deep gratitude for the loving message that the last physician gave my husband, who had so patiently and lovingly waited on me during all those years. After three months had elapsed and the doctor had not been called, he asked the reason for it. My husband informed him that I had not been ill. He asked what we had done, and was told that I had been healed at a Christian Science lecture. The doctor was pleased to learn that I had been healed, and said that he knew nothing about Christian Science, but if I had been healed of the agony he had witnessed for so long, he wanted me to stick to it; and I have, for I love Christian Science. I have had many trials, but I know that as I cling steadfastly to God, I shall be cared for ever. I am grateful to God, who gave Mrs. Eddy the courage to press on and give to the world this healing and saving truth. I am also grateful to the practitioners who have so patiently and lovingly helped me in my trials, and for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church. I hope as I journey along, learning more about God and His loving care, that I shall be worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."
