After becoming interested in Christian Science, through my mother's healing of a serious heart trouble, I often wondered whether it would act quickly enough in cases of great pain. These thoughts came to me because I was, according to the doctors, subject to attacks of intestinal indigestion in an aggravated form. The pain at such times was very great, and materia medica had done but little for me. These attacks usually lasted for two or three days and left me very weak for another day or so.

My reading and study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook served to protect me from the attacks, for I was free from them for about three years. While I was living in a small town in Mexico I woke one night with every indication of one of these attacks. On account of the pain I was unable to think clearly, but I simply held fast to the thought that I am spiritual, not material, and in about five minutes the pain lessened; in a very short time I was absolutely free. I had not called my wife for help because the difficulty responded so quickly to the application of the truth. While I was fighting it I realized that the nearest practitioner was across the border in Arizona, and with our poor telephone facilities it would be hard to get aid quickly, so it was necessary to stand firm in what I had learned from my study of Christian Science. My question was answered, for I had found that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword," quicker than materia medica, for the suffering was over before I could have secured a physician. I could only lie back and praise God for His availability in this great need. Not only was the pain alleviated, but the condition was permanently healed, for in the twenty-one years since then I have never had another attack of that nature.

This experience has been a great help to me, for it has impressed me with the speed of Christian Science healing, and has helped me in working out the many problems that have come to me. My gratitude goes out to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her untiring effort to give us this Science of God which enables us to draw nearer to Him in our thinking, and thereby taste of heaven.
