The truth of the statement, "Divine Love always has...
The truth of the statement, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494), was very beautifully demonstrated to me in my first healing in Christian Science. As I was trying to open a window which had been stuck fast with paint, one hand slipped and went through the glass, which cut a gash in the arm. I had just been reading Science and Health, and had come to the above statement for the first time. The truth it contained came to me so clearly that all fear and pain left me. Almost instantly the blood stopped flowing. A physician was called, without my consent, as kind friends thought this the best thing to do; and six stitches were taken in my arm. The next day I went about my usual routine, using my arm when necessary, and experiencing no pain or discomfort. When the stitches were removed I felt no pain, and within a week the wound was completely healed.
Shortly after this I was healed of a weak muscular condition of the eyes, from which I had suffered for years. The condition had become so acute that I had given up my position, discontinued all reading for a year, and used my eyes for only a few minutes at a time. Finally I had an operation on one eye with the understanding that if that did not heal the difficulty I should have to undergo an operation on the other eye. The trouble was overcome for a while, but returned within a few months. At this point I began to work for myself as we are taught in Christian Science. The reading of the textbook, which revealed to me that sight is spiritual, therefore outside of the body, brought a complete healing. I was healed of chronic headaches, and dispensed with glasses which had been worn for years; and since then have been able to use my eyes at all times.
For the Reading Rooms I give thanks. The quiet and peace which pervade these Rooms are conducive to spiritual thinking. In them I have spent many hours of quiet study. For the periodicals, bearing their messages of Truth, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction, I am very grateful.
