I cannot say how grateful I am for the teachings of Christian Science
I cannot say how grateful I am for the teachings of Christian Science. At the time it was brought to my attention I was thoroughly disheartened, had no interest in life, was full of hatred and self-pity, and was in great need of healing. Finding that Christian Science was a religion, I thought at first that it was of no use to me, because I had been brought up to study the Bible and to attend church regularly, and when in need of help I could find nothing there to satisfy me and lift me out of this mesmerism of unhappiness. Later I began to study the Christian Science textbook, and soon found all the help I needed. I became utterly changed, losing many faults of character and beginning to love instead of hate. The understanding that God is Love, Mind, Life, has brought great joy into my life; also the knowledge that error is nothing, that there is no power but of God, who is omnipotent, supreme, and therefore that man must lose all fear of lack, discord, loneliness, and manifest only harmony.
Physically I have been healed of constipation of many years' standing, poisoning from insects, a nervous breakdown, and influenza; but it is for the moral healings that I am most grateful. I am so happy to love instead of hate, to know despite all seeming that "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way" (Science and Health, p. 454).
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for class instruction, and for everything connected with Christian Science; grateful beyond words to our beloved Leader for her selfless and consecrated life, for all her writings, and her wonderful work in establishing The Mother Church and its activities and the periodicals. To those friends and practitioners who have so lovingly helped me I am most grateful, and I am trying to prove it by so living as to help others.
