My interest in Christian Science began about twenty-seven...
My interest in Christian Science began about twenty-seven years ago when a fellow worker related to me his healing of an injured foot which, for a long time, had prevented him from walking. About that time I was laid up for a month by an attack of typhoid fever. A year or so later symptoms appeared which seemed similar to the former attack, and fear was at once aroused; but this time I determined to give Christian Science a trial. My wife telephoned to a practitioner for treatment, and in a short time the pain disappeared. On the second day I was able to return to my work. From that time on medicine was discarded, and I began attending a Christian Science church, which I later joined. During all these years many benefits have been received through the application of the teachings of Christian Science. More than once practitioners have helped me in financial matters. Some years ago an attack of influenza was overcome within a few days. Yet for many years I made no earnest study of these wonderful teachings; and it was only when I did so that I began to realize how much of good they have brought us.
Many blessings come to us as students of Christian Science, such as the privilege of doing our part in the various activities of a branch church, of subscribing for and reading the various Christian Science periodicals, of supporting the lectures and the various activities of The Mother Church, and of studying daily the Lesson-Sermons which continually bring us new understanding of man's real being and his relationship to God. But the single blessing which I think I esteem most highly is that of class instruction. That experience was by far the most instructive and inspiring which I have had in Christian Science. These days of study, together with the annual Association meetings, mean very much to me. I am deeply grateful to our Leader, who made all this possible.—Norman Z. Ball, Norfolk, Virginia.
