"As thy days"
In the Glossary to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 584), Mrs. Eddy defines "day" as "the irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love." In order to reflect Spirit, we must fill our consciousness with the luminous rays of spiritual light, with the ideas of divine Life, Truth, and Love. We must be joyously obedient to the rules given for our instruction in out textbook, the understanding of which brings about the demonstration of the Principle of divine healing. Yielding obedience to the commands of the Bible and to the By-Laws in our Church Manual is very important, and in fulfilling these requirements we shall be walking uprightly.
The Psalmist says, "The Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." These unbounded blessings can be externalized in the supply for human needs only in the measure that the truth about God and His image and likeness, man, is understood, realized, and demonstrated. A most important step of progress is the understanding that God alone is our substance and supply. In this period when the entire world seems to be passing through a trying financial readjustment, a student of Christian Science has found it necessary to refrain from looking beyond the present and its needs, to consider only what each day's experience has in store for her, and to learn what spiritual lesson is to be gained from it. The necessity for doing this has required much searching of thought, and continual turning to divine Mind for help, the means through which we learn the real meaning of the Bible promise, "As thy days, so shall thy strength be."
Days thus profitably spent have contributed to her growth, as well as preventing her from looking beyond the present need. She has proved beyond a doubt the truth of the statement (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." What happy assurance this statement carries with it! These blessings bring with them a gladness whose radiant beams dissipate evil beliefs of every nature. They create in us a desire to express and reflect the character of our heavenly Father, and to have that Mind in us "which was also in Christ Jesus." As we gain the Mind of Christ, we share love, unselfishness, and other virtues with our neighbor. With this unfolding of good, our light can shine with spiritual irradiance. Our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 584) : "Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there.' "
