That Christian Science heals, even though the one...
That Christian Science heals, even though the one having help may know nothing of its teachings, was proved to me many years ago. One of my sisters and I had arranged to take a trip. I was suffering from a very severe cough and was willing to have Christian Science help because I would be unable to get the medicine I had been used to taking for this condition. I knew nothing of the teachings of this beautiful truth, and had never had any desire to know anything about it, although my sister was an earnest student. While on the trip I was healed of the cough, and a few years later I was healed of sciatica which was so severe that I feared I should never walk again. The healing of sciatica took place more than fifteen years ago, and there has never been a return of the trouble.
Although I did not become a student of Christian Science immediately after these healings, I was greatly in need of help, for during my early girlhood I was very unhappy. When I went to sleep at night my hope was that I would not awake in the morning. About sixteen years ago, while passing through what seemed to me a great disappointment, I again turned to Christian Science for help, and not only did it help and comfort me then but it was a wonderful comfort to me when, a few months later, both of my parents passed on.
After these experiences I became a very earnest student, and in the years that have followed I have had many beautiful healings of physical disorders, such as chronic constipation, influenza, nervousness, chapped hands, severe coughs and colds, burns, infections, a growth on one eyelid, and ingrown toenails. I have also been healed of extreme fear of dogs. Such false beliefs as pride, resentment, self-pity, self-justification, judging, condemning, and oversensitiveness have been overcome to a large extent. In Proverbs we read, "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city." This Bible verse has meant much to me in the overcoming of anger, and today I can gratefully say that it is very seldom that I am tempted by this belief.
