While they may not altogether agree with some of your conclusions, Christian Scientists generally will appreciate your courteous editorial concerning The Christian Science Monitor's treatment of crime news.

In the first issue of the Monitor, Mrs. Eddy made the following statement (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353): "The object of the Monitor is to injure no man, but to bless all mankind;" and this has been the fixed policy of the publishers.

Contrary to opinions sometimes expressed, Christian Science does not ignore evil, but brings about its destruction. It is in no sense exploitation of crime to uncover its hidden ways of working and to point out the remedy. There is a vast difference between sensational details of criminal deeds, and sober, analytical comments thereon. One merely caters to a depraved taste, while the other is designed to provoke constructive thought and thus aid in promoting an unfailing panacea for wrongdoing.
