More than twenty-five years ago, after being given up...
More than twenty-five years ago, after being given up by doctors—three of them specialists who diagnosed my case as nervous prostration, malnutrition of the nerves, and strong religious monomania—I was persuaded by my daughter, who had become interested in Christian Science, to have treatments; and in less than three weeks I was well and happy. I had been a partial invalid for more than ten years, growing steadily worse as the result of an operation; and but for this blessed truth I might either have been in an asylum or have passed on. My condition at that time was very serious, and I was utterly hopeless and despairing, for I had lost my faith in God, although I had been a devoted, active member of an orthodox church for years. About two years after this healing my testimony was printed in the Journal; and out of my deep gratitude for what has been done for me through all these years I should like to tell of some of the many healings that have come to me since that time.
About six years ago, while on my way to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, I was struck by a car and thrown on my face but not rendered unconscious. My face and nose were so badly hurt that the people in the car wanted to take me to a hospital, but I refused. As I had gone only about two blocks, I returned home, called a practitioner, and went to bed. Within three days my face was completely healed, and no one could have told that it had been so badly injured.
Three years ago, at the passing on of my husband after we had had fifty-eight years together, I was so strengthened and sustained, and so lifted above the sense of loss and separation, that my family and friends were amazed. My hearing has been good all this time, and I have passed the fourscore milestone on the upward way. More than seven years ago my eyes were healed so that I do not need glasses at all, after using them for more than twenty years. A bit of glass which had been in one of my eyes for twenty-four hours was removed without pain or inflammation, through an understanding of the truth alone. A sprained ankle, a badly bruised kneecap, scalds and burns, have also been healed through this wonderful truth; and I have no words to express my love for and appreciation of our dear Leader and her faithful work in giving us this Science, and showing us how to gain an understanding of it. I am a member of The Mother Church and a branch church; and am so grateful for the literature, the lectures, and the faithful workers everywhere, including the Board of Directors.
