Lessons from the Flowers

How oft in memory we turn
To that bright morning long ago,
When Jesus spoke to yearning hearts,
And taught them God's dear care to know.

We see the hillside fresh with dew,
The golden sunlight over all,
While from the gently waving trees
Bird songs with sweetest cadence fall.

The lilies blooming at his feet
In more than royal loveliness,
Their glowing beauty give to all,
To happify, and cheer, and bless.

And then we hear the tender words,
Those words that ever softly steal
Into our tired and troubled thought,
And with their sweetness bless and heal,

That if the birds are fed by Him,
And wayside blossoms clothed so fair,
God's own dear children could not lack
His ever present love and care.

And thus the blossoms of today,
Blooming in garden or in field,
In all their sweet, glad loveliness,
Speak to us of God's love revealed.

Then let us, like the birds and flowers,
Be grateful, joyous, and care-free,
Like them reflect alike to all
Love's beauty, grace, and harmony.
