Years ago, when I first heard of Christian Science, I made light of it because of ignorance.

Eighteen years ago, when she was suffering from various ailments, my wife and I left our home. She consulted many physicians and took treatment under the different medical systems with but slight relief. Most of the physicians diagnosed the trouble as appendicitis, and all of them pronounced the case one that called for a major operation. We traveled from state to state until we reached the Pacific Coast, where the same diagnosis and the same pronouncement were given: "Incurable without major operation." During these years of travel we came in contact with people who had studied the Bible with the aid of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and were impressed by their characters. We therefore listened with attentive ear and receptive thought to the testimonies telling of restored health and harmonious conditions brought into the lives of other people.

Fourteen years ago we reached this city, and at night my wife had the most severe attack of all. We had no acquaintances here. We used such remedies as we could think of to relieve the pain until morning, when she consulted a Christian Science practitioner; and by noon my wife was doing her housework as though nothing had occurred.
