The long record of God's goodness to me needs some...
The logn record of God's goodness to me needs some special acknowledgment. The angel of His presence brought me to a spiritual awakening for which I owe and give daily thanks. Yielding to the pleading of a sister, I went to a Christian Science practitioner. Many times I had refused this urging to "come and see" until I thought, If she asked me for a drink I should get it. Why not do as she asks now, just to please her? So I went. I told the practitioner of my loss of faith in God, my hopelessness of being of further use in life. What shutting of ears there must have been to this foghorn of error, what a pouring in of love! Without allowing any reply I left.
I had had a nervous breakdown and had returned from the mission field as an invalid, supposedly incurable. Now to my great surprise I found myself going up the apartment stairs two steps at a time, a thing neither possible nor hoped for before that day. The truth had set me free. Bowed shoulders were lifted; singing was resumed; cheerfulness replaced gloom. Both willingly and easily I did what was required. That night the insomnia disappeared, refreshment came. To my surprise, the next morning I wanted to hear more of this healing truth. One day I called the practitioner and said, "I have every symptom of a cold." I had had continuous colds all my life. She replied, "You don't need to have any." Nor did I after that.
Although I had been told that methods of teaching had changed so much while I was in Japan that I could not find a position, a new field in teaching was opened to me. Can you wonder at my gratitude for the truth that makes us free?
