Stronghold

Go publish ye the glory of the Lord,
His uninvaded power;
So publishing and praising, tell the news
Of man's exhaustless dower.

Go build for God again a lofty house
Where He alone is Lord,
Where reverent hearts and meek are dedicate
As servants of the Word.

With pier and girder, set with stone and bronze,
The walls we build arise;
Already builded in our hearts they shine
As gates to paradise.

We hear the roof majestical resound
The hammer blows of faith,
And music of the steel that rings on stone
Declaring, Thus God saith.

Here courage, never daunted, shall proclaim
The secret of man's worth,
That proves itself in sacrifice and hope,
To bless the wondering earth.

O joyfully, O lovingly, are met
Our hearts in pure accord,
That in earth's weary desert may arise
This stronghold of the Lord.

Here roses shall be beautiful, and wake
The wilderness to bloom, and fear reprove,'
Where in the steadfast battle of our faith,
We lift His banner, who is Love.
