In reply to the question raised by "Student" in his letter that appeared in your columns on March 11, I would point out that, as I have already stated in my former letter, Christian Science teaches that the belief in a physical life resident in a material body is a misconception of the so-called human mind, a misconception which must be, and eventually will be, overcome by the realization and demonstration of the glorious fact that life is spiritual, not material, and that there is only one Life.

In the first chapter of Genesis we read, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." It could not be otherwise, since God, who is absolute perfection, could create only the perfect, as there can be nothing in effect which is not to be found in cause. Now, if anything be perfect for the least fraction of time, it must be perfect throughout eternity, for there is no imperfection in it which could lead to its dissolution. And to be perfect for all eternity is to possess eternal life, unconditioned by time and space.

The humble, grateful recognition of the absolute perfection of God and His spiritual creation has raised from the depths of sorrow and suffering countless thousands of men and women, and has proved to be equally efficacious in the treatment of animals. I have also myself seen diseased trees restored to a healthy condition by the same understanding.
