In sincere gratitude for what the study and application...
In sincere gratitude for what the study and application of Christian Science have done for me, I submit this testimony. The physical healings have been many: influenza, bowel trouble of twenty years' standing, severe headaches forcing me to lie in a dark room two or three days at a time, tonsillitis, constant colds, and other ills have been overcome, as well as loss of voice for almost a week at a time.
I am profoundly grateful for the overcoming of bad habits, such as the taking of drugs of all kinds and intoxicating liquor to alleviate pain. Extreme nervous trouble, caused from the habits just mentioned, has been healed mostly through my own study of our Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. This healing seemed to be a long uphill climb, but Truth prevailed. These verses from the Bible helped me to turn completely to God: "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me;" and, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them." The enemy that has been destroyed in my consciousness has many names, such as fear, worry, irritableness, self-condemnation, condemnation of others, criticism, self-pity, quick temper. False appetites have been greatly overcome.
For the loving help and compassion shown to me by friends both in and out of Christian Science, and for the beautiful and consecrated lives of practitioners, I am very grateful. I am particularly grateful for our Board of Lectureship, which keeps alive the everlasting fact that Mary Baker Eddy was the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science; and to Mrs. Eddy herself, for all the channels she has provided for our study of Christian Science. For class instruction, and membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, I am also deeply grateful.
