In 1922 I began to study Christian Science
In 1922 I began to study Christian Science. I heard of it from a lady whom I met at a railway station, while I was waiting for a train which was to take me into the country to find health, as I then thought, for I was in a very bad state. During our conversation she asked me to try Christian Science. Her words must have fallen on "good ground," because I stayed away only two days; I felt I must return to town so that I might borrow "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Usually I did not like to read, but I found I could not stop reading this textbook until I had read it nearly through. I may say that I had never been strong since I was seven years of age. Following my reading I began to attend a Christian Science church, and I was much impressed by the happiness of the people and the friendliness they manifested. My next step was to visit a Christian Science practitioner, who kindly and lovingly consented to help me. The truth she voiced—"God is Love" —contained healing for me, and I felt so uplifted that after a few days I discovered that all pain had gone, and I could eat anything without discord. Neuritis, gastric stomach trouble, goiter which affected the heart, defective eyesight—all had vanished.
Another healing, which took longer, was of a misplaced kidney pressing on the bladder; this had troubled me for four years. I had consulted the best doctors, but they were unable to give me any relief. Later, as my study of Christian Science progressed and the truth unfolded in my thought, I was healed through reading the Christian Science textbook.
I should like to return grateful thanks for another proof of God's power to heal. Sixteen years ago a will was made which shut me out of my rightful inheritance. Recently, with my increased understanding, Truth removed all obstacles, notwithstanding the lawyers' verdict to the contrary. I held to the statement on page 231 of Science and Health, "What God cannot do, man need not attempt." After six months justice was manifested, and the result was a harmonious settlement.
