Signs of the Times

[Editorial in the Herald, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada]

We are told that "blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." It is difficult to see God at certain times. But if we realize that God is good there must come to us the consciousness that though we may not be able to discern it, there is goodness in the world to which our eyes will be opened if we search for it in an abiding faith in God the Father.

We have to admit that there is a great deal in seeing God, in getting that inward vision of Him, believing in Him as He was presented to us by His Son. To see God makes a great deal of difference in our outlook. We shall be more inclined to look for goodness and grace, to look on the bright side and not on the dark side of things. The vision will carry us farther. Instead of being prone to look for evil we shall look for good; instead of looking for faults we shall seek for virtues. We shall thereby become more tolerant, more generous, and more charitable.
