I wish to express sincere gratitude for the many blessings...
I wish to express sincere gratitude for the many blessings I have experienced through Christian Science. Going to Alaska over twenty-five years ago, I took with me a book far more valuable than the gold we were looking for. This book was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a gift from a dear sister-in-law. Through reading this textbook I have experienced many healings. The first was of defective eyesight. When I broke my glasses, being far away from an oculist I turned to the textbook with the sincere desire to learn the truth. Seeking, I found. Christian Science has also healed me of colds, tonsillitis, burns, sprains, warts, rheumatism, bronchitis, and rupture, as well as of a great fear of lack, of hate, resentment, and many other faults of character; and it has taught me how to love more.
On one occasion I called for help from a dear Christian Science practitioner. In her letter to me she said: "In 'Miscellaneous Writings," page 277, you will read these words, 'No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme;'" and she added, "If you hold to this unwaveringly you will see the proof." Never can I express enough gratitude for this text. Times without number I have proved that if we rely on the supremacy of God and do not waver, we shall see the proof. I should like to relate two cases that were healed by my standing firm for the supremacy of God. Two Eskimos living in the village near me had been very sick with influenza. The man, I was told, was passing on. When I went to his cabin he was apparently beyond help; but I knew that "with God all things are possible" and that "no evidence before the material senses" could "close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme," and that God is everywhere present. I held to this unwaveringly, and when the man gave a deep sigh and closed his eyes I had the assurance that all was well. When, later in the evening, some Eskimos came to tell me that he was better, that he was conscious and they thought he would get well, I was indeed grateful for having again proved the truth of this text. Another case was that of a young girl who had been having hemorrhages of the head for more than four days. She was so weak she could not sit up. Again I turned to this blessed text, and knew God was right where this condition seemed to be. The hemorrhage stopped, and in less than twenty-four hours the girl was sleeping for the first time in more than four days. Then mortal mind said she was deaf. This also soon cleared up, and in a short time she was well.
Words cannot half express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. I am so grateful for the healing of rheumatism through absent treatment by a dear sister-in-law, for the loving help from practitioners who are always so kind in answering calls for help, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction from a loyal teacher, and for our beloved Leader.
